Privacy Policy

What We Collect

Watch Chat collects only the minimum data needed to make the chat work:

• Chat messages — the text you type in the Watch Chat panel. These are stored in our Firebase database and tied to a movie title and timestamp.
• Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated ID created when you first use the extension. This is not linked to your name, email, or Netflix account.
• Username — a randomly generated display name (e.g. "CosmicSoul540") stored locally on your device. You can change this anytime.
• Movie title and playback timestamp — read from the Netflix page to determine which chat room to place you in. This is never stored permanently.

What We Do NOT Collect

How We Use Your Data

The data we collect is used only for one purpose — to make Watch Chat work:

• Chat messages are displayed to other users watching the same scene at the same timestamp
• Your anonymous ID is used to identify your messages in the chat so you can see which ones are yours
• The movie title and timestamp are used to place you in the correct chat room

Data Storage

Chat messages are stored in Google Firebase Realtime Database, hosted in the United States. Messages are retained to allow future viewers to see reactions from previous watchers. We do not sell, rent, or share this data with any third parties.

Third Party Services

Watch Chat uses the following third party services:

• Google Firebase — for real-time database and anonymous authentication. Firebase's privacy policy applies: firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Your Rights

Since all data is stored anonymously and not linked to your identity, we cannot identify or retrieve your specific data. If you wish to stop using Watch Chat, simply uninstall the extension from Chrome. Your anonymous session will be removed from our database automatically.

Children's Privacy

Watch Chat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used this extension, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Watch Chat after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
